Update on Covid Measures

Dear Parents/Carers

COVID measures in school

I wanted to update you on COVID matters, in particular the rise in positive cases that we seem to be experiencing currently at St Peter’s, in line with many other schools within our local area.

We have closed four year group bubbles within the last week- so far, tracing back the cases, these have been isolated and linked to family transmission rather than a cluster of in school transmission.

When we are notified of a case by a parent we contact Shropshire Public Health immediately and they advise us on the course of action to take. This also includes shutting bubbles following a positive lateral flow test as a precaution whilst awaiting confirmation of a positive PCR result.

Our Covid precautions are robust within school and we continue to follow our risk assessment which worked exceptionally well for the majority of the three lockdowns and beyond.

There has been some indication that the guidelines for schools, particularly around self-isolation, may change in the autumn but with two weeks to go until the end of term, we have received no information from the government. In the meantime, with cases rising locally, I am asking you to take any request to self- isolate seriously.

I have been made aware that a minority of families that have had children sent home to isolate from St Peter’s have been spotted out and about in Wem, at supermarkets and have even attended the circus that was in town last week. I understand everyone’s frustration, we have all been affected by these restrictions and when we see large crowds at sporting venues and in restaurants and bars etc it makes us question why we have to follow different rules. Unfortunately, it appears that our younger children are now more affected and therefore this has a knock on effect within schools.

St Peter’s is attempting to manage something that is out of our control if parents are not sticking to self-isolation rules. Please help us to prevent any further cases by doing your part and following guidance.

Thank you for your continued support.
